Update Galaxy Ace S5830 with 4.1 Jelly Bean based Revolution Light Custom ROM

The Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 users can now power up the performances of their smartphones by installing the latest custom ROM available, the Revolution Light V1 software. By flashing the same on your phone you will be able to update a Jelly Bean based firmware on your Ace, so that you can easily enjoy and test some of the latest Android features, looks and capabilities right on your own device. In order to succeed with this operation, I have explained a step by step guide which will take you through the installation procedure, so for further info check the next lines.
Take note that this is not an official firmware released by Samsung, the Revolution Light custom ROM being developed by those of xda-developers (we have to thanks them for the present tutorial). Furthermore, by completing this guide you will not update the Galaxy Ace with a Jelly Bean OS, though the platform comes with several Android 4.1 features and themes. As usual, when we talk about custom ROMs, you should know that you will not be getting the classic Android system as there will be added different features that cannot be found in the default version of the mentioned OS.
Anyway, before deciding whether to update your Galaxy Ace to Jelly Bean based Revolution Light custom ROM or not, you should first take a look over the features that will be installed on your handset. I have mentioned the most relevant ones in the image from below; also remember that this is the first version of the software, meaning that there might be some bugs into the system. Don’t worry though as those of xda-developers will resolve the same once a new variant of the update will be provided.
Galaxy Ace Jelly Bean based Revolution Light Features
Galaxy Ace Jelly Bean based Revolution Light Features
If you do want to continue with this tutorial, then you must first prepare your Galaxy Ace for the flashing process that will follow. That’s why you must first complete the next pre requisites; if not you will not be able to apply the Jelly Bean styled update on your smartphone.
You should start by rooting your Ace S5830 device. If your phone has been previously rooted, then you can skip this part. The Revolution Light custom ROM can be updated only on an unchained system, meaning that you must remove the factory restrictions out from your phone. This can be performed by gaining root access, a procedure that can be easily completed (follow our suitable how to guide). Be aware, as this will imply in voiding the warranty; the only way available for restoring the warranty is the downgrade one (reinstall the stock firmware, or update with an official software provided by Samsung and suitable with your Ace).

The next thing to do is to download and install a custom recovery image, such as CWM recovery. This tool is extremely important because you will have to use it for performing a full wipe of the system and for installing the Jelly Bean update on your Galaxy Ace. Yes, a wipe is being required, so a backup must also be performed. I have mentioned some backup and restore tips below, so that you can easily take care of the same. Furthermore, during the same list you can see which the rest of the pre requisites are; complete them before heading to the proper steps.
  • Use a custom recovery image if you want to backup the current ROM; in case something bad happens while trying to flash the Jelly Bean based one, you will be able to easily restore the stock OS.
  • The text messages can be saved and this by downloading suitable backup and restore apps for Android.
  • Furthermore, there are backup and restore apps for saving the call logs, so don’t hesitate and use the same.
  • Backup the EFS folder and the internet settings.
  • Sync with your Gmail account for saving the contacts list.
  • Use a computer or SD card for backing up other files like images or videos.
  • You will have to use a computer and on the same and on the phone deactivate or uninstall the security tools (antivirus and Firewall protection included).
  • On your handset enable the USB debugging option; go to “Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging”.
  • Your device should be first charged, or else it might get turned off in the middle of the installation procedure.
  • Remember to root and install a custom recovery image.
  • Apply the next steps only for updating the Samsung Galaxy Ace model number S5830; the Jelly Bean styled Revolution Light custom ROM will work only on the mentioned smartphone.

Remember that an official Gingerbread value pack is being available for your device, so if you don’t like this beta ROM then you can easily learn how to install an official OS on your Ace. Update Galaxy Ace S5830 with SGS2 based Jelly Bean v10.1 Custom ROM I(Updated)

If you like how the Galaxy S2 user interface looks and more, if you like its features, but all you have is the Galaxy Ace S5830 handset, we have good news for you. Thanks to a new custom ROM firmware now you will be able to update your Ace with a SGS2 styled software that will customize and optimize your device. The Jelly Bean v10.1 custom ROM comes with the latest features and capabilities (many ported from the S2 smartphone) available, meaning that once you complete this tutorial, you will be able to upgrade your Galaxy Ace to Android 4.1 OS and also power up its performances with Galaxy S2 based ones.
First of all, take note that this is not an official software released by Samsung for your Galaxy Ace. Furthermore, there won’t be any Jelly Bean updates launched for your device due hardware limitations, so the only way for bringing the Android 4.1 flavor on your phone is by installing a custom ROM firmware into its system. There are many OS improvements available for your Ace, so before applying something, make sure that you are taking the best decision. Now, the operation described during the present step by step guide is not a hard to understand or complete one, but you should know that if you are not doing everything as explained here you can end up in bricking your smartphone.
As described in the introduction, the Jelly Bean v10.1 custom ROM will update your Galaxy Ace S5830 with Galaxy S2 features and looks, so you have all the reasons for installing the same. The software is being based on the stock DDKQ8 2.3.6 platform and it was developed and tested by those of xda-developers. Anyway, if you want to learn more about this OS you should check this page is that is our source for today. Then, resume the next lines for applying the pre requisites and also for learning how to update your Ace to Jelly Bean 4.1.
This is a beta firmware, meaning that flashing it is a risky and complex operation. Because of that you must begin with a backup. Use backup and restore tools for saving the Galaxy Ace contacts, messages, call logs, EFS, internet settings and even the current ROM. If you want to use tutorials for the backup process, then I recommend you to take a look over our how to section as you have everything you need there. You should complete the backup before going any further or else you will risk in losing all of your personal info that are being saved on the internal storage memory of your device.
Next, as soon as you save the data go and root the Galaxy Ace. Be aware as by rooting the warranty will get void. If this aspect isn’t on your taste, stop going any further. Anyway, you must gain root access if you want to succeed with updating the Ace to Jelly Bean v10.1 custom ROM, as the software must have access to some internal files in order to work properly. Also, you should know that the warranty can be restored by downgrading to the stock ROM, or by updating with an official firmware (unlikely as only minor improvements might be released for the future). After rooting, you must download and install a custom recovery image, CWM recovery for example, which will be used for the flashing process (more about this during the proper steps).

Now, just before I detail the actual guide, here are the general pre requisites that must be completed if you want to safely end this update operation. On your Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 and on your computer you must uninstall all the security programs as these tools might interrupt our work. Then, on your phone go to “Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging” and check the last option. Also, charge the battery, or just check the battery status as there should be at least 60% power left. Don’t apply this tutorial for a similar phone with the Galaxy Ace S5830 because the Galaxy S2 based Jelly Bean update will work only for the mentioned smartphone.

How to Update Galaxy Ace S5830 with SGS2 based Jelly Bean v10.1 Custom ROM

  1. Use this link from here and download the update package on your computer.
  2. Next, connect the handset with your PC via its USB cord.
  3. Now, select the file from the PC and copy-paste or drag and drop it on your phone’s SD card.
  4. You can disconnect the device now.
  5. Turn off the Ace or just reboot in recovery mode.
  6. For recovery mode you must hold the Menu Button and the Power key until the recovery menu is being displayed.
  7. First of all, from the recovery mode menu select to wipe the data (backup the data first).
  8. For the wipe select “wipe data factory reset” and “wipe cache partition”.
  9. Next, return to recovery: “+++go back+++”.
  10. Then select “install zip from SD card” and “choose zip from SD card”.
  11. Just select the downloaded file from the SD card and start the update process.
  12. The operation should take a couple of minutes, don’t make any other changes.

In this tutorial I will show you how to flash CM10 to a Galaxy Vibrant T959 smartphone. If you want to update the Vibrant to jelly Bean, than you should know that root access will be required. We are dealing with a custom ROM, so this operation doesn't come from Samsung. Furthermore, by rooting you will remove the factory restrictions and you will gain more access to the Android system. This is meaning that the warranty will get void. You can anytime restore the same by downgrading to the stock ROM, or by updating with an official release of the software. Only then the factory restrictions will be restored and the bootloader relocked. Besides rooting, your smartphone should also have a custom recovery image pre-installed.
Because CM10 is a custom ROM, you will have to do a backup first. By applying the update, the data will be corrupted and you will lose all of your saves whether we are talking to text messages, contacts, call logs, internet saves, market apps, or images and videos. Therefore, take the time needed for completing a full and safe backup.
Finally, the last section of this tutorial that is required before the actual steps. This is the pre requisites section, so don’t skip it. As you might know, you will have to download some files, save them to a Windows running computer and then flash the same from your phone. So, you need to have access to a computer, to your Vibrant and to its USB cord. Then, charge the handset. Enable the USB debugging option from its settings. If on the PC or on the smartphone there are security programs installed, temporarily deactivate them. Finally go here “Settings -> Location and Security -> Sim card lock” and ensure that the checkbox is not selected.
Now, after you had seen what to expect from Cyanogenmod 10, you can head to the steps from below. From there you can learn how to update your Samsung Galaxy Vibrant T959 to Android 4.1.2 OS. Make sure you are applying the guide only for the mentioned device and not for similar ones as you can easily brick them.
